I got a rare treat Saturday night. My excessively social 15 year old found himself without something to do, and he was forced to hangout with his mom! Okay – so he hadn’t really felt great either, but if you HAVE a social 15 year old you know you take what attention you can get when you can get it.
What do you do with a sick baby on Saturday night when your hubby’s laid up with surgery complications? You introduce that baby to another John Hughes movie.

I gotta tell ya – it really was like Christmas came a little early this year being able to spend the evening with a not-so-tiny-but-very-skinny-human who only gives me the time of day when he wants my money. And OF COURSE he liked the movie because he’s my kid….
Saturday night was great, but something pops out to me still even tonight. It’s another timely lesson. I guess I have time to look for those all over the place these days. What is it? That ultimately you’re only happy when you stand up for what you want. What you deserve. Where you want to end up.
It’s not news to me, but it was a great reminder. It was also a nice little piece of nostalgia as I’ve watched that movie over and over (and owned the cassette, and CD, and downloaded it from Napster, and still have some of those great songs in my rotation).
Life never turns how you think it will. I’m old enough to learn to stop trying to make plans. I am wise enough now to CHOOSE my life, though. If people compromise too much on me, and conditions start to “squish” me – I will make my own damn dress and show up to the prom alone.
